Data Center Linux Server Engineer – Chantilly, Virginia - $70,000 - $90,000 – Linux (Hardware / Software), Troubleshooting Hardware + Software, Networking layers 1, 2 & 3, PXE, Data Center experience, Red Hat O/S
I’m partnered with a global IT services provider that work with some of the biggest names out there in the tech world. As part of their continued growth & requirements, they’re looking to hire two Server Engineers to their team in Chantilly, Virginia.
Server Engineer responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day activities related to the support, research, analysis, and implementation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems / Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat operating systems
- Manage server hardware technologies relative to content delivery performance and capacity
- Experience virtual server environment administration
- Oversee traffic and any other queries raised by ISP/partners
- Apply configurations (STIG) and patches
- Manage switches for any incidents such as input errors, CRC, RMA etc
- Day-to-day activities involve working on multiple vendor servers and various software and hardware issues
- Independently handle global production content delivery network deployments
- Lead production and corporate network and internet peering strategies
- Work with ISP/vendors on fixing any issues related to network
Server Engineer requirements
- Ideally 0 to 2 years of recent hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server systems administration
- Experience with Linux systems (Red Hat/CentOS, WindowsOS and MACOS)
- Knowledge of Linux hardware repairs (log files, etc)
- Understanding of basic concepts and commands (Linux server booting process)
- Knowledge of the PXE installation process/kickstart configuration
- Familiar with Networking layer 1, layer 2 and layer 3
- 2 years of experience in working with different server hardware HPE
- Exposure to Data Center environment
- Experience with physical server-level troubleshooting - HPE Servers
- Experience with Usage of BMC - HPE iLO
- Exposure to racking and cabling physical servers
Nice to haves
- Experience creating automation and system administration scripts using Python and or Bash (preferred)
- Experience with writing Bash and Python scripts (preferred)
- Ideally a bachelor’s degree in Computer science or any relevant fields
