Education & Experience Requirements
The Staff Attorney position is an opportunity to work on a wide variety of transactional and dispute resolution matters. The Staff Attorney assists in directing the legal affairs of the Company to ensure maximum protection of its rights utilizing broad familiarity with most major legal disciplines. This includes supporting the Company’s day-to-day and special business activities by responding to legal inquiries, providing problem solving and rendering advice with respect to applicable agency and real estate laws and regulations for all jurisdictions in which the Company operates (WV, VA, MD, DC, DE, PA, NJ, NC, SC). Directs the defense of the Company against suits or claims, including providing supervision of and direction to outside counsel and directs the prosecution of the Company’s claims against others. Supervises the legal aspects of the Company’s transactions and the preparation of reports and statements of a legal nature.

Presidents, department heads and subsidiary operations, parent company legal department
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):
Organize and direct the Company’s legal activities to protect its (and the organization’s) interests from a legal standpoint. Initiate legal action on behalf of and defend the Company in any legal action initiated against it. Counsel and advise Company executives and all other personnel on the legal aspects of activities within their assigned areas. Participate in and/or supervise litigation. Monitor and participate in government hearings and any other hearing or arbitration matter involving the Company in any way. Direct the defense of, or the prosecution for, the Company in all claims and/or litigation issues and supervise any outside legal counsel. Oversee representation of real estate licensees and the Company in state and federal real estate agency investigations, Board of REALTORSÒ commission arbitration matters, Board of REALTORSÒ ethics hearings, Conciliation Court hearings and in home buyer/home seller arbitration hearings. Provide local legal perspective as needed on compliance implications of contracts, state/local government relationships, Company human resources and organizational structure issues, and related matters that may arise from conducting business in the Company’s market(s). Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
