Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant maintains the Credit Unions accounting records and financial reports, insuring they are in compliance with both generally accepted and credit union accounting practices.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensures that the daily transfer of data from the core system to the Prologue system is completed and in balance
Reviews teller work and balances loan and share data. Ensures that any out of balance conditions are addressed and rectified.
• Performs assigned GL reconciliations and financial report and record analysis
• Performs month end close duties and verifies the associated financial reports for accuracy and completeness
• Performs daily balancing and reconciling of cash accounts
• Processes and posts mortgage funding and payoff entries
• Maintains the credit union’s fixed assets and prepaid items
• Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records
• Coordinates accounting matters with other departments and locations
• Annually evaluates, maintains, and creates
(when necessary) up to date processes and procedures using organizational established format for all job functions assigned ensuring accuracy.
• Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control

Qualifications and Skills required

• Five to ten years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions

Must have a good understanding of FHLMC, FNMA and FHLB MFP rules and guidelines.
• A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position
• In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience
• Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance
