Summary:

Facebook is seeking a Field Engineer to join our Global Data Center Connectivity team (GDCC). Our data centers are the foundation upon which our innovative services are delivered, and our rapidly scaling infrastructure operates. The GDCC team lights up Facebooks global data centers, using industry leading fiber optic cabling, outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) to deliver the physical infrastructure that connects the world to our services, videos, feeds, and other information stored on Facebooks global network.The Field Engineer is part of the GDCC Data Center team and is responsible for delivering and maintaining new builds, retrofits and day-day operations for all low voltage, fiber optic cabling, network, and any supporting infrastructure. The Field Engineer will support the site Field Engineers who are GDCC point of contacts for our partners regarding technical scope, and works closely with multiple stakeholders at the data center. This position is on site full-time. Some travel required.

Required Skills:

  • Mission Critical Service Delivery Assist in tracking the safe delivery and maintenance of all structured cabling and connectivity, according to design and specifications, on time, within budget, and to industry leading standards of quality and reliability ensuring efficient delivery of critical services to the data center.
  • Assist with Vendor Field Management Assist with GDCC activities with construction, projects, and day-to-day operations on site including tracking and reporting actual progress related to schedule expectations. Help communicate/set expectations with the immediate site team, build key relationships with our installation partners and drive a culture of best practice, safe working environment and execute to a vision of right the first time'.
  • Quality Assurance - Assist the Field Engineer in performing physical inspections to ensure vendor work meets GDCC quality standards throughout the lifecycle of the data center. Validate physical installs, test reports, build accuracy, material and local code compliance including constructability reviews on multiple design phases. This will include conducting field walks with vendors of in progress work, final inspection walks for owner sign-off completed projects.
  • Technical Coordination - Develop solutions to in-field scope-gap or clash issues. Partner with GDCC design and engineering teams to digitally support design reviews, BOM reviews, and as-built drawing validations.
  • Documentation Assist with technical write ups of new product implementations, pilots and evaluations including capturing and sharing lessons learned. Assist with managing project close out deliverables, design, submittals, and certifications.
  • Operations Assist with the oversight of the Operations team for detailed turn-up schedule, Move, Add, Change, decommission (MACD) and setting project priorities and ensuring rapid responses to high priority builds and break-fixes. Support cross functional prioritization of workflows. Assist managing the internal work order system, ticket creation, monitoring, and follow up including server rack deployments with a focus on Service Level Agreements and reliability.
  • Process Development - Support development of best practices and initiatives, coordinating standard operating/installation procedures with vendors and site team.
  • Communications & Cross functional team engagement - Liaise with construction partners to ensure deliverables are met during new builds and retrofits. Coordinate with logistics partners, vendors, and suppliers to ensure a smooth end to end flow of materials as needed. Work closely with the relevant teams to proactively communicate progress and project risks and initiatives to key stakeholders.
  • Safety - Ensure that vendors adhere to safety obligations in accordance with local regulations and Facebook Environmental Health and Safety {EHS} best practice. Lead a 'safety first' culture, with open and transparent communication. Acknowledging good EHS practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience in structured & fiber optic cabling projects.
  • Bachelors degree in IT, Engineering, Communications, Construction Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience or training with fiber optic testing at scale inclusive of complex troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of outside plant cabling (OSP) deployments including OTDR/OLTS testing.
  • Understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control including progressive inspections and acceptance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of tools.
  • Experience or training in reviewing and leading installations to design documents and specifications.
  • Knowledge of purpose and intent of installation standards and local code.
  • Communications skills.
  • Experience collaborating across multi-disciplines to deliver a common goal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience, knowledge or training in a mission critical environment requiring coordination across multi-disciplines for delivering a common goal.
  • Experience, knowledge, or training with the technical disciplines Optical Fiber/DAS/OSP/Structured Cabling/Carrier.
  • Systems Experience - BiM360, Unifier, E-Builder, ProCore, Primavera P6, DCIM.
  • Experience in Network Switching, routing, and design.
