The MITRE N261 Missile Defense Agency (MDA)

Weapons Systems Engineering Department is seeking a highly motivated and experienced systems engineer to serve as a Senior Radar Analyst for the Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Capability Assessment (BCA) team based in our classified MDA lab located at MITRE McLean, VA.

The MDA mission is to develop, test, and field an integrated, layered, ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends against all types of enemy ballistic missiles in all phases of flight.

This position provides a unique opportunity to work closely with a team of highly technical missile defense analysts and researchers to ensure the successful fielding of systems by the MDA.

The BCA team is an independent organization of the BMDS that is responsible for proving assessment of capabilities and limitations of the BMDS, and recommending data driven courses of action in support of fielding decisions.

The successful candidate will have education, technical skills, domain experience and knowledge in Electrical Engineering (EE), Modeling & Simulation (M&S) using MATLAB, AFSIM, Python, and perform radar data analysis.

You will learn and apply knowledge of missile defense radars that include the AN/TPY-2, X-Band Radar (XBR), SPY-1, and Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR).

Experience in missile and radar ground and fight test data analysis are preferred along with 3 to 5 years of experience in radar or sensor data analysis, and a programming background in M&S software tools.

Key Functions:

  • Technical analysis of missile defense radars using real-world ground and flight test data from the MDA
  • Ability to develop and present analysis to advise sponsor of capabilities and limitations of the
  • Collaborate and work as a member of a SME team of engineers and analysts addressing capabilities
  • Develop and use analysis tools and models, as needed, to examine technical radar system behavior
  • Serve as staff member producing differentiated products that align contribute to sponsor outcomes
  • Work closely with other Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) and University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) to provide objective data driven products
  • There is an opportunity to develop into a subject matter expert (SME) and take on leadership roles

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of radar analysis, test or development experience
  • Demonstrate proficiency in understanding of the BMDS Radars such as TPY-2, SPY-1, XBR, UEWR, LRDR
  • Proficiency in M&S analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python as well as learn and apply AFSIM modeling
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, develop papers and briefings,experience briefing sponsors
  • Experience with FFRDCs or UARCs.
    Understand how to provide differentiated technical support vs. SETA
  • Undergraduate degree required in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics
  • M inimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3years required but 5 years of radar analysis, test, or development experience is desired for this role
  • M&S development of the BMDS Radars such as TPY-2, SPY-1, XBR, UEWR, LRDR.
    Perform simulations
  • Experience with radar programs and MDA flight and ground test data analysis to characterize radars
  • Experience with prime contractor radar specifications and/or MDA element BMDS radar specifications
  • Advanced degree preferred in either Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics
