An update on our 2024 Winter Release and our new search experience, Threads.

An update on our 2024 Winter Release and our new search experience, Threads.

By Dylan Buckley

TLDR:

In March we released our 2024 Winter Release ( click here if you missed the original release post ), which is the culmination of over 5 years of consistent building, learning, improving and iterating on DirectlyApply.  Since inception, DirectlyApply’s aim has always been to advance job matching technology by providing a seamless job seeker experience and the Winter 2024 release of Threads has been our most successful to date.

How has Threads performed?

What has been incredibly exciting is seeing the huge uptick in job seeker performance and outcomes since launching Threads.

342% increase in applications from job seekers using Threads compared to previous ‘traditional’ search experience

When releasing an entirely new way to search for jobs, we were unsure of what the impact would be on job seeker outcomes (although finding a job to apply to is arguably the most important). However, within hours of going live with Threads it was clear that the impact was meaningfully positive. The number of applications started in a single user session has increased by 342% when compared to our previous ‘traditional’ search experience. This increase in performance is one of the largest increases we have experienced off a single product update.

Job seekers are exploring more, with job views from Threads up over 200%.

Job search is a journey, which is why we have always referred to DirectlyApply as a job discovery platform rather than a job board. We can clearly see the correlation between comprehensive job search (exploring multiple relevant jobs from a range of companies) with increased job application and hire rates. The way Threads presents jobs to job seekers allows for increased engagement of over 200%, across different jobs postings, leading to a more ‘complete’ job search session, which in turn is driving the increased application rates.

Job seekers really like the new approach to search

We pride ourselves on our job seeker experience, and our belief that job search should be a human experience, not just a race to generate clicks for the sake of it.

Since launching Threads we have received a number of public reviews referencing our platform's ease of job discovery and process.

Updates since launch:

Since launching our 2024 winter release, which introduced Threads, we have already deployed a number of noteworthy updates

  • Thread generation is now 3x faster than launch

  • New Thread artwork designs

  • Allow for multiple job queries to be generated into Threads simultaneously

  • Easier editing of Threads preferences

  • Better error handling and job seeker coaching when something goes wrong

  • Dynamic job cards within threads showing job seeker activity on them

We operate a continuous deployment process between major releases, and deploy dozens of changes on a daily basis to our core platform. As we collect more data from job seekers using Threads, we continue to improve the product and its performance significantly.

What’s coming next?

Over the next few weeks we will continue to iterate quickly on the core Threads functionality, further improving its performance.

Some of the key features coming soon:

  • More dynamic Threads suggestions - as we detect your job search preferences changing, we will suggest Threads that match your updated requirements.

  • Subscribe for Thread updates straight to your inbox - when we find a new job in a Thread you have subscribed to, that you haven't seen yet, we will send you an email to let you know it's there.

  • A clearer way of reviewing jobs that are matched in multiple of your Threads.

Thank you

We really appreciate all the messages we have received over the past few weeks. Launching something entirely new, that's unproven is always a risk, but we are delighted with how its been received by job seekers and the job search community,
